'Choice' Synopsis - A2 Film Studies

Synopsis – ‘Choice’

Jamie Thompson (18) is a young male, who is shy, unconfident and scared. These attributes led him to get himself involved with the wrong people. Jamie is going through a difficult and challenging experience in his life after making commitments to a gang, which are known as ‘The Family’.  Jamie finds himself in a situation where, in a question of their commitment to the gang, he has been asked to kill another boy.

One afternoon Jamie is pulled aside by gang leader Olario (21) who is an aggressive and violent male. This aggression is shown in the way he treats Jamie, knowing he can intimidate him into doing what he wants. Olario gives Jamie a choice by offering him a knife, but it is a choice Jamie feels he cannot refuse.

That night, Jamie prepares himself for the worst moment of his life. He pulls on dark, discreet attire and looks into the knife one last time before he commits to the attack. Jamie finds himself in an emotional state of anger and fear. He leaves the house, still unsure of what is about to happen.

After tracking his target down, Jamie enters an alleyway where he knows he will have time to escape. With his target walking towards him completely unaware that his life is in severe danger, Jamie plunges the knife into him. The victim falls to the floor clutching his stomach. Jamie walks away briskly.

Jamie bursts through his bathroom door, breathing heavily, full of adrenalin.  As he cleans the knife of the bloodstains on it, the traumatized young boy sinks to the floor in a flood of tears. Has he made the right choice?
